Every season we have a range of internal competitions that are played on a knockout basis. Members identify the competitions they would like to play when they register at the start of the season. The draws take place shortly after and a posted on the competitions notice board in the clubhouse.

Finals take place over two days towards the end of the season with winners getting their name on our honours board and receiving their medals at our presentation evening.

Singles

Our men’s and ladies singles competitions are played with 4 woods with the winner being the first to achieve a score of 21 points.

Pairs

With men’s, ladies and mixed competitions, our pairs matches are played over 18 ends for all rounds until the final, which is played over 21 ends.

Handicap Singles

In this mixed competition, bowlers are allocated a handicap dependent upon their ability. For each match, the difference between the player’s handicaps determine the head start given to the player with the lower handicap. The first player to score 21 points wins.

Two Wood Singles

A mixed competition that is all about accuracy! As the name suggests, each bowler has 2 woods and only those that finish within a yardstick of the jack score. Heats are played over 16 ends and the final is played over 18 ends.

100 Up

A mixed singles competition where points are awarded each end for the 4 woods nearest to the jack. The closest takes 4 points, the next 3, then 2 with the final wood scoring 1 point giving a total of 10 points per end. The player reaching 100 points first is the winner.

Sam & Mabel Cup

This mixed teams competition usually takes place on a Sunday midway through our season. Players are drawn at random, from pots of experienced and less experienced players, meaning any team could win on the day! Throughout the day teams participate in two mini-leagues with the winners of each league meeting in a final.

Fun League

Every week we have an afternoon match where all members who come along are drawn at random to play against each other in teams. Each week bowlers from the winning team are awarded credits, with prize money being shared out at the end of the season on the basis of total credits attained.

Beyond our internal competitions and matches, we have regular club fun days throughout the season and whilst there are no medals up for grabs, they provide an entertaining and relaxed way to learn and practice team bowls.
